Muchai murder suspects want to recall 3 witnesses

Seven people accused of violently robbing former Kabete MP George Muchai, his two aides and a driver have appealed a Nairobi court to be allowed to recall three prosecution witnesses for cross-examination.

The accused, who have since been put on their defence, are seeking to be allowed to recall the witnesses before they can start defending themselves.

Through their lawyers, the suspects told Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, who is now handling the case, to have the prosecution witnesses recalled for cross-examination.

Previous Trial Magistrate Roseline Oganyo had found all the accused with a case to answer.

In her brief ruling, the magistrate said after analysing evidence adduced by 36 witnesses, she found that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against all the accused persons. “I accordingly put all of them on their defence,” said the magistrate.

The seven have denied nine counts of violent robbery. They are separately also accused of murdering Muchai, his two aides Samuel Kalikia and Samuel Matanta, and driver Stephen Wambugu on the night of February 6 and 7, 2015 on Kenyatta Avenue, Nairobi.

They are further accused of robbing Michael Gituto of a vehicle and other personal property, all valued at Sh416,000.
