MPs summon Machogu over petition on varsity polls

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu (pictured) has been summoned to personally appear before a committee of the National Assembly on March 7 to respond to queries relating to a petition calling for the repeal of sections of the Universities Act 2012.

The committee on implementation led by the chairperson and Budalangi MP Raphael Wanjala warned Machogu that failure to honour the summons could see him being fined or face censure motion.

Said Wanjala, “We are asking you CS to come here in person on March 7 because all reports and resolutions of the house must be responded to. Our committee is the one that follows up on the implementation of various resolutions of the house.”

The committee said its decision to summon the CS follows his failure to appear before the committee in person on two occasions and because of the unsatisfactory answers given by Higher Education Principal Secretary Beatrice Inyangala who appeared before the committee on his behalf.
