MP Omboko Milemba raises alarm over rising insecurity in Emuhaya after mob justice

By , May 24, 2026

Emuhaya constituency Member of Parliament Omboko Milemba has raised concern over escalating insecurity in Ebuyangu, Emuhaya in Vihiga, after angry residents lynched one while police rescued two others from mob justice during a crackdown on gangs terrorising the area.

Police recovered police uniforms and crude weapons believed to have been used by the suspects, deepening fears among residents over the growing criminal activities in the region.

Ebuyangu residents, who say they are fed up with marauding gangs, have vowed to protect themselves if police fail to act.

“We cannot sleep while thieves roam freely. We will defend our homes,” said residents during a public baraza with the area MP.

Milemba’s response

Addressing locals on Sunday, May 24, 2026, Milemba condemned the killings but urged residents to hunt down known criminals and hand them over to the police instead of taking the law into their own hands.

“If you know these people, flush them out and surrender them to police. Let the law deal with them,” Milemba said.

He also put security agencies on notice, demanding tougher action against gangs terrorising the area.

“Police must deal decisively with these criminals. We cannot have a situation where residents live in fear while officers are silent,” he added.

Boda boda outcry

The latest outcry follows the killing of a boda boda operator identified as Elias Okubasu, who was attacked by unknown assailants.

Okubasu was found dead along the Kisumu-Busia highway, his motorcycle missing. Boda boda operators in Emuhaya are demanding justice for Okubasu and better security patrols at night.

“Our colleague was killed and his motorbike stolen. Today it’s Elias, tomorrow it could be any of us,” one of the Emuhaya Boda Boda operators said

Embali OCS Ezra Sambu asked residents to help police with information that can lead to the arrest of the persons of interest.

” Let us work together to curb cases of insecurity in the area. Criminals live amongst us some are our brothers or sons,” Sambu said.

Osotsi with boda boda operators

Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi has also held a fact-finding meeting with boda boda leaders in Luanda following May’s deadly protests that claimed two lives.

The consultative meeting on Sunday, May 10, 2026, sought firsthand accounts from riders affected by the unrest as the senator called for calm, justice, and accountability from security agencies.

“It is deeply regrettable that lives were lost. Families are grieving,” Osotsi said. “Law enforcement must uphold the rights of all Kenyans during operations.”
