MP Gitari blames political enemies for vandalism of NG-CDF office in Kerugoya

Kirinyaga Central Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Gachoki Gitari has officially recommissioned the newly renovated NG-CDF office in Kerugoya, months after it was vandalised and looted during the Saba Saba demonstrations.

Speaking on Friday, December 5, 2025, during the reopening ceremony, Gitari described the damage as “a calculated attempt to derail development in Kirinyaga Central.” He explained that the vandalism forced the office to operate with severe limitations and, in some cases, shut down essential services altogether.

The MP said the destruction, estimated at Ksh100 million, included theft of vital equipment and documents, significantly disrupting service delivery and stalling several public programmes that depend on the office for coordination.

According to the MP, key equipment, including computers, printers, furniture, and administrative tools, had been stolen, while the remaining items were destroyed, leaving staff unable to serve residents effectively.

Gitari claimed the attack was politically motivated, alleging that a group of individuals mobilised youths to cause chaos due to his unwavering support for President William Ruto.

“This destruction was not random. It was organised by people who fear progress because I support President Ruto’s development agenda,” he said.

“I will not be intimidated. I will keep supporting the government because that is where Kirinyaga Central gets its fair share.”

He added that those who spearheaded the destruction were attempting to drag him into early campaigns by using violence to derail development but insisted they should draw lessons from the just-concluded Mbeere North by-election ahead of 2027.

“Let them threaten me all they want. I am ready for 2027, and what we saw in the Mbeere North by-election is exactly what will happen across the country,” he stated, insisting that voters would again speak “loud and clear”.

Gitari also cautioned residents, especially young people, against being lured into destructive political activities by politicians he described as selfish and visionless.

The legislature insisted that those who organised and financed the violence would face justice, noting that his office is working closely with the national police to trace and prosecute the masterminds.

“Destroying public resources is not just attacking government; it is attacking the people who rely on these services,” he warned.

His sentiments were echoed by Kirinyaga Central Deputy County Commissioner Josephine Mwengi, who reaffirmed that investigations into the vandalism are ongoing. She condemned the destruction and reminded young people that public offices belong to the residents of Kirinyaga Central and must be safeguarded as shared community assets.

Mwengi urged local youth to distance themselves from individuals who exploit them for political gain, stressing that involvement in violent activities exposes them to criminal charges that could permanently affect their prospects.

She encouraged them to take advantage of government programs by embracing skills development, entrepreneurship, and educational opportunities provided by both the county and national government.
