MP Atandi blasts Orengo, labels governor’s Siaya tenure a disaster

By , April 24, 2026

Alego Usonga MP Samuel Atandi has launched an attack on Siaya Governor James Orengo, accusing him of failing to deliver development in the county.

Speaking during a rally in Kisumu on Thursday, April 23, 2026, Atandi claimed Siaya County has stalled under Orengo’s leadership, claiming that public resources have not translated into meaningful progress.

Making reference to the upcoming Linda Mwananchi rally in Kisumu on Sunday, April 26, 2026, Atandi noted that Orengo should focus on improving development in his county instead of addressing residents in Kisumu.

“The convener of this meeting here in Kisumu is none other than James Orengo. He is the biggest failure in the terms of devolution. Siaya County is no longer a going concern. There is nothing going on,” Atandi said.

Orengo’s regional politics

The MP questioned Orengo’s relevance in regional politics, telling Kisumu residents to demand accountability from the governor and urging him to go back and make development in Siaya.

“Somebody who has failed in Siaya, anakuja kuambia watu wa city nini? (what is he coming to tell the people of the city?) There is nothing new which James Orengo can come to Kisumu here to tell the people of Kisumu,” Atandi said.

“We want you to tell James Orengo, when he comes here on Sunday, to go back and make development in Siaya.”

Atandi also used the platform to affirm political alignment between leaders from the region and President William Ruto. He described the relationship as strong and unshakable, referencing a recent meeting at State House involving regional leaders and the Head of State.

“Our cooperation with President William Ruto is very strong and unshakable. Muliaona viongozi wetu walienda State House wakakutana na President Ruto wakitengeneza mambo ya zoning na hizo mambo zingine. (You saw our leaders went to the State House and met President Ruto to arrange matters of zoning and those other things.)

Peaceful rally

Atandi has called on Kisumu residents to remain peaceful and focused on development as the Linda Mwananchi team prepares to visit the lakeside city on Sunday.

Atandi said his presence in the region was part of his broader mandate to engage citizens on development priorities and gather views to inform national budgeting.

He noted that he has recently toured several counties, including Turkana, Mandera, Mombasa and Kilifi, in a bid to listen to wananchi and align projects with their needs.

“I am here today in Kisumu to inform our people about some of the development projects that we have put in place that are going to transform the city. Part of my work is to listen to the people and get ideas on what to include in the budget,” he said.

Linda Mwananchi rally

Babu Owino has maintained that the faction will hold a peaceful rally as planned, insisting that no amount of intimidation will stop leaders from engaging wananchi on key national issues.

He stated that their group remain committed to championing the rights and welfare of all Kenyans despite attacks from their opponents.

Tukienda kwenye rally tunashambuliwa na goons, tusipoenda bado tunashambuliwa. Hata hivyo, tutaelekea Kisumu Jumapili, Aprili 26. Tunawakaribisha waje, sisi hatutaogopa kujitokeza,” Babu Owino said.
