Motorists raise questions over crash that claimed Jirongo’s life
By Kiprono Keileb, December 31, 2025The burial of former politician Cyrus Jirongo has sparked fresh debate as lingering questions surrounding the circumstances of the crash that claimed his life remain unresolved.
Concerns have been raised by friends, political allies, and road safety advocates, who say inconsistencies in the accounts of the fatal accident demand further scrutiny.
In a statement shared on X on Wednesday, December 31, 2025, the Motorist Association says there are lingering doubts surrounding Cyrus Jirongo’s death
“Jirongo was laid to rest amid lingering doubts raised by politicians and friends, centred on unresolved inconsistencies surrounding the head-on collision. Questions persist about how the two motorists actually collided, the silence of the 65 bus passengers, and conflicting accounts regarding the presence of two passengers in the smaller vehicle. Further doubt arises from claims of a stationary, wrong-side impact despite only slight damage to the bus, assertions of a traffic jam that do not appear in CCTV footage, and statements about the bus slowing down that are contradicted by images of a speeding vehicle,” the Motorists Association of Kenya stated.
Despite the burial, the association warns that these questions cannot simply be closed with the passing of the first motorist. They note that further clarification from the surviving driver is crucial to reconcile inconsistencies with available evidence, including CCTV footage from the scene.
“With the burial of the first motorist, these questions risk being quietly laid to rest as well. It now remains to be seen whether the surviving motorist will offer further clarification on claims that do not align with the CCTV evidence, before the file is closed by the Attorney General with the conclusion that the deceased caused his own death,” the statement added.
Motorists Association emphasize the importance of transparent investigations, noting that failure to thoroughly examine conflicting accounts can undermine public trust in official findings. They argue that reconciling witness statements, vehicle positions, and CCTV footage is essential to ensuring accountability and preventing similar tragedies in the future.
