Mosiria vows to lead cleanliness exercise in Eastleigh amid waste disposal menace

By , September 10, 2025

Nairobi City County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has warned business operators and landlords in Eastleigh against illegal dumping in the city’s economic hub.

In his message on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, Mosiria cautioned hawkers who operate in the busy streets of the densely populated area to stop blocking the drainage system with litter. He further warned that stern action will be taken against those caught in illegal dumping.

”I have put on notice all individuals and businesses engaging in illegal dumping within Eastleigh. Hawkers who block and occupy drainage systems will be arrested and prosecuted,” Mosiria said.

The Environment Chief Officer also advised landlords in Eastleigh to stop directing filth on roads and compounds in the area.

”Landlords dumping garbage directly onto roads or into neighbouring compounds will also face strict legal action. I will personally lead the exercise to restore order and cleanliness in Eastleigh.

“I call upon all residents to embrace these changes by maintaining cleanliness in their homes, places of work, and frontages. Together, we can build a cleaner, healthier, and more organised environment for everyone,” he added.

Earlier warnings

Earlier in his statement posted on his X account on Friday, August 29, 2025, Mosiria also emphasised that enforcement actions will be taken against offenders littering the Nairobi Central Business District.

“We will arrest anyone found dumping waste in the CBD instead of using the bins. The culture of littering must stop, so do not blame us for taking action against offenders,” he stated.

Mosiria called on members of the public to report littering incidents to county officers for immediate action.

“If you see anyone littering, please report it to our officers within the CBD so that action can be taken if they refuse to use the available litter bins,” he stated.

The Chief Environment Officer also announced the installation of new litter bins as part of an initiative to combat the persistent culture of littering.

“We have installed new litter bins made of plastic material that has no value to thieves. Please protect them because they belong to you. If you see anyone attempting to vandalise them, be the first to stop them,” Mosiria stated.
