Nairobi County Environment Chief Officer Geoffrey Mosiria has vowed to take action against a hospital accused of dumping medical waste at an illegal site in Huruma.

In a statement on his X account on Friday. October 3, 2025, Mosiria said the action follows complaints from residents and waste pickers who raised concerns about the unsafe disposal of medical waste in the area.

“Today, I responded to complaints from residents and waste pickers in Huruma regarding a hospital that has been disposing of medical waste at an illegal dumping site,” Mosiria stated.

The county team investigated the matter and traced the waste back to a hospital operating within Huruma.

According to Mosiria, the investigation confirmed that medical equipment found at the dumpsite had originated from the hospital. County officials later visited the facility and verified the claims, linking it directly to the illegal disposal.

“Upon investigation, we tracked the medical waste and confirmed that it originated from a hospital within the area. We visited the facility and verified that the medical equipment found at the dumpsite was indeed from the said hospital,” the sanitation officer stated.

He warned that the improper disposal of medical waste poses a serious risk to both public health and the environment. He stressed the need for health facilities to follow proper waste management practices to protect communities and reduce pollution.

Mosiria said the county government will work closely with the Ministry of Health to ensure those responsible are held accountable.

He assured residents that further measures will be taken to guarantee compliance with environmental and health regulations.

“Improper disposal of medical waste poses a serious risk to public health and the environment. We shall work together with the Ministry of Health for further action to ensure accountability and compliance with the law,” he added.
