More witnesses lined up to testify in slain athlete Tirop murder trial
Twenty-seven more witnesses have been lined up to testify against Ibrahim Rotich in a case in which he is charged with the grisly murder of slain Kenyan international athlete Agnes Tirop.
According to the prosecution, among the witnesses set to give their testimony will be the deceased elder brother, a doctor who performed a post-mortem on her body and police officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) who arrested the accused- the prime suspect in the murder.
So far, only two witnesses- the slain runner’s young sister Eve Jepngetich and father Vincent Tirop- have given their evidence over the killing of their kin before the Presiding Judge, Justice Wananda Anuro.
Rotich, 43, has denied killing the Kenyan long distance athlete on October 13,201 at Rural estate on the outskirts of Iten town, Elgeyo Marakwet county.
Probation report
He was released on a bond of Sh400,000 with two sureties of similar amount or a cash bail of Sh 500,000 last week.
Justice Anuro made the ruling on Rotich’s bond application after reviewing the probation report and other requirements for his freedom.
The accused had been in remand since his dramatic arrest by police officers over the killing in cold blood of his estranged lover more than two years ago.
