The National Police Service (NPS) has reported significant progress in the ongoing disarmament initiative across Kenya’s volatile regions, with a notable surge in voluntary firearm surrenders.

On October 30, 2025, the NPS announced that “The ongoing disarmament initiative in Kerio Valley Sub-County continues to yield positive results.” This statement underscores the success of the amnesty program, which has gained momentum in addressing the proliferation of illegal arms in the region.

According to the NPS statement, on October 31, 2025, Tot Police Station received two further illegally held firearms, which were surrendered voluntarily, an AK-47 and a G3, from Kaben and Arror Locations.

Progress across the region

This progress builds on earlier successes in the region. Just three weeks prior, on October 11, 2025, the NPS reported that “security agencies in Baringo County have received another illegal firearm, as the ongoing amnesty and disarmament exercise continues to yield positive results.”

On October 10, 2025, a resident of Adome Village, Nakoko Sub-Location, Silale Location, voluntarily surrendered an AK-47 rifle with an empty magazine to security officers operating in the area.

This latest surrender increased the total number of firearms handed over to authorities in Baringo County to 75 AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, and 227 rounds of ammunition since the exercise began.

The NPS emphasised the importance of public participation, noting, “The National Police Service continues to commend residents who have heeded the government’s call to surrender illegal firearms, noting that the initiative remains key to promoting peace and stability in the region.”
