Political activist Morara Kebaso has blamed Kenyans for enabling bad governance by voting along tribal lines, further calling out the public over their poor choices in electing policymakers.

In his statement posted on X on Saturday, November 15, 2025, Kebaso said that Kenyans bear full responsibility for the increasing corruption cases among those in power and that they should not play victims.

The activist gave an example of individuals giving out an upward of Ksh500,000 bribe for a job opportunity in the police service instead of venturing into entrepreneurship.

Kenyans enabling corruption

”As Kenyans, we should stop pretending. We are not victims of corruption; we are the financiers through taxes and the enablers through tribal politics. Why would someone bribe 500K to be employed as a police officer instead of starting a business?” Morara Kebaso posed.

He argued that such a mentality among the citizens is the root cause of corruption, as the individual will develop a tendency to collect bribes after earning the job opportunity.

”Because you know you will not depend on the police salary, you will be collecting bribes. These values of integrity that we want our leaders to have – do we have them? How can honest people vote for a thief?” Kebaso added.

His sentiments come shortly after suggesting that Kenyan youth should unite to form new political parties to challenge tribalism and corruption rooted in the country’s longstanding political formations.

Youth political party

In a message posted on X, dated November 8, 2025, Kebaso stated, “We would rather have an imperfect, chaotic youth party that dares to end tribalism and corruption than sit idle and watch Kenya’s promise fade away.”

The INJECT party founder also argued that efforts to reform the political system from within have proven ineffective.

“Let us not lie to ourselves that we can change a system from within. No one can learn integrity from the corrupt. No one can learn selflessness from the selfish. Once you join their political party, you learn from them and become like them.”

“And that is how an older, corrupt generation hands over power to a younger, corrupt generation. I encourage you to do it now before it’s too late. I tried, and I got tired. It is your turn to try.” Kebaso added.

Ahead of the 2027 general election, the political class is desperately seeking the vital support of the country’s young population.
