Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.

Gachagua’s call for a boycott of musicians

The public spat between Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and his predecessor, Rigathi Gachagua, is expected to continue this Monday, May 25, 2026.

This is after Gachagua, on Sunday, May 25, 2025, demanded an apology from Kikuyu musicians hosted by Kindiki during his recent meeting with musicians drawn from the Mt. Kenya region in Karen.

Speaking at Kihoya, in Kangema constituency, Gachagua said the musicians must apologise or risk sanctions such as a boycott of their music and also being unfollowed from social media by their fans.

However, in a quick rebuttal, Kindiki responded to Gachagua to stop lecturing people and also respect him as a person.

The DP further dared to hold an even larger pool of musicians in his subsequent engagements following the fresh threats from Gachagua.

Already, the Digital Content Creators Association of Kenya (DCCAK) has come out to condemn Gachagua, who called for the boycott.

DCCAK said that Gachagua should understand that the artistes who visited Kindiki in Karen did so because they are allowed by the constitution.

“We remind Mr. Gachagua and others with similar authoritarian fantasies that artistic freedoms are not privileges to be granted at will – they are constitutional rights protected under Articles 33 and 40 of the Constitution of Kenya. These freedoms are neither conditional nor negotiable,” part of its statement read.

MP Koimburi’s whereabouts

The whereabouts of Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi is expected to dominate political discussions following his abduction on Sunday, May 25, while attending a church event in his Kiambu County.

The MP, who has had run-ins with law enforcement in the recent past, was abducted after attending a church service at Muguthi Full Gospel Church in Kiambu.

According to his wife, Anne, Koimburi was assailed by two men in plain clothes and bundled into a Subaru vehicle while interacting with congregants after Sunday.

The development sparked outrage, with members of the public demanding the release of the legislators, even as authorities remain silent on the matter that has fueled fears of a return to cases of abductions and forced disappearances of people.

Kiambu’s Doctors Strike

The planned strike by Kiambu medical officers is set to kick off this Monday, May 26, 2025, officially.

Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) secretary general Davji Bhimji Atellah issued the strike notice on behalf of the county’s medics on Friday, May 23, 2025.

Atellah said they have been forced to go on strike after the Kiambu County government failed to sit down with the doctors and find a solution to the issues raised by the medics.

“On May 26, 2025, Kiambu doctors will down their tools in what will be the strike of our lives. We call on all our members to begin discharging and referring patients. The time for waiting is over. The time for action is now,” Attelah said in a statement on X posted on Friday, May 23, 2025.
