Moi University shutdown enters fourth week

Lecture halls at Moi University’s main campus and its Eldoret town campuses remained deserted for the fourth week as dons sustained their industrial unrest over a raft of unfulfilled demands

by the government. The most hit with more than 2,000 lecturers’ protests are hundreds of first-year students who have missed classes since they reported to the campus last month.

Also adversely affected by the strike are students undertaking degree courses in medicine at the School of Medicine at the Eldoret town campus with dons vowing not to return to their respective workstations until all their demands are addressed.

Last Thursday, National Union leaders affiliated to the University Academic Staff Union (UASU) and Kenya Universities Staff Union (KUSU) called off their strike after meeting with the inter-ministerial committee after signing a return to work formula.
