Millie Odhiambo offers 3-day employment to a student
By Luke Oluoch, August 11, 2025Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo on Monday, August 11, 2025, excited the pre-devolution delegates’ conference after she volunteered to employ a university student for three days to help her with her studies in statistics.
Speaking during the Pre-Devolution Conference in Homa Bay on Monday, August 11, 2025, Odhiambo, who revealed that she recently went back to school for her PhD in statistics, offered a three-day employment to Esther Muthui, an applied statistics student.
“If there is a student here whom I can employ for the next three days, Kuja hapa, if you are good in statistics, and I am so thrilled,” Millie said.
“I am going to employ her for the next three days. Today, part of tomorrow, and also Wednesday. She is Esther Muthui. Do you know one thing I love about you? When the opportunity arose, she jumped up when the men were still debating,” she stated.

“Our first engagement is this afternoon because I am doing my PhD, and statistics is giving me a nightmare. You are not going to do my work; you are going to teach me. Is that in order?” she revealed.
The MP further lauded the girl’s readiness to take up the opportunity when it presented itself.
“The world is run by those who turn up. I am going to pay you more than what you offered,” she told the elated girl.
Lessons on Passion
During the occasion, Millie challenged Kenyan students to have passion and commitment. She termed the two virtues as key to wading through the challenging field of business.
Odhiambo recalled how she started her self-employment with a carton as her table. “I was employed for the shortest time. I am a lawyer by training, but for the longest time I employed people. I started with a cartoon as my table; all I had was passion and commitment.
Speaking after earning the rare chance, Muthui, who was done after finishing her role, agreed to stay for the brief employment offer.
“I am having a brand called School of Statisticians, and we are having a mentorship program that we started on January. We are at the cohort three,” a beaming Muthui said.
