Miguna protests IG Koome, DCI boss ‘silence’ on murder of Meru blogger ‘Sniper’

By , December 25, 2023

Lawyer Miguna Miguna has protested what he terms as silence of Inspector General of Police Japheth Koome and Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Mohamed Amin amid concerns over the cold-blood murder of Meru-based blogger Daniel Muthiani alias Sniper.

Miguna, in a social media post on Monday, December 25, appealed to the police and DCI bosses to address questions regarding the disappearance and killing of Sniper by unknown hitmen.

“Kenya is a violent society that has been run over by the culture of impunity. On this Christmas Day, Kenyans demand to hear from @DCI_Kenya and Japheth Koome about the barbaric murder of Sniper!” Miguna wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Sniper was reported missing on December 2, 2023, and his body was found dumped in a thick on the banks of the Mutonga River in Tharaka Nithi County on December 16, 2023.

A postmortem examination conducted on the deceased’s body at Marimanti Level 4 Hospital Mortuary on Friday revealed that the blogger was tortured before being strangled to death.

Oduor told the media that Sniper’s body had marks on the neck and also exhibited signs of a person who lacked oxygen.

The deceased also suffered fractured ribs and injuries on his head.

“There were no signs of struggle and he seemed to have been completely subdued to a level that he could not fight back. We have taken some samples of organs that will be subjected to toxicology tests to establish whether there were substances used to achieve this,” Oduor revealed.

“Examination of the body also showed that it had decomposed after being in the water for several days,” Oduor added.

He said DNA results would be released at a later date though he expressed confidence that the family had positively identified the body.

Sniper’s family and political leaders from the region appealed to security agencies to swing into action and bring the perpetrators to book.

“Those who were involved should be ready because they will be caught. We want proper investigations from responsible bodies and action,” Imenti South MP Moses Kirima stated.

Blogger and Kenya Kwanza digital strategist Dennis Itumbi also took to social media to demand justice for Sniper.

“I am a blogger. #BloggingIsNotACrime The only Christmas message is #JusticeForSniper Hii ufala na ujinga must stop. Disagree with me, but do not kill! Enough is Enough! Justice must be served,” Itumbi said in a post on X.
