Igegania Level 4 Hospital in Gatundu North has received a shot in arm in its medical capabilities after a recent acquisition of an assortment of essential medical equipment.

The new additions include 10 oxygen concentrators, 3 infant incubators, 2 laryngoscopes, 5 bedside monitors, 4 automated external defibrillators, an electrocardiogram unit, 12 hospital beds, 2 folding stretchers, 2 centrifuges, and 5 emergency carts.

The substantial upgrade is part of a broader initiative spearheaded by Kiambu governor Kimani Wamatangi to elevate the facility to a Level 5 hospital.

The infusion of the equipment marks a step in improving patient care and expanding the hospital’s capacity to handle more complex medical cases and also reduce patient referrals to other major facilities.

Ongoing commitment

The enhancements are expected to not only enable the hospital to provide better care to its patients but also serve as a testament to the ongoing commitment to advancing healthcare services in the County.

Speaking during the official handover of the equipment, Kiambu CECM Health Services Dr Elias Maina who was accompanied by area MCA Joseph Mwangi, and the Medical Superintendent of Igegania Level 4 Hospital, Dr Wekesa said the enhancement of medical capabilities at the facility is key in facilitating provision of specialized medical care among residents.

Maina emphasized the critical role the upgrades will play in enhancing the hospital’s operational efficiency and improving patient outcomes.

“Residents from this constituency have been going very far to access specialized medical care services. The equipment we have installed today will however bring this to a stop even as we plan to further equip this hospital for upgrade to a level five facility,” said Maina.

MCA Joseph Mwangi highlighted the positive impact the facility will have on the local community, expressing optimism about the hospital’s future as the local government works towards upgrading it further.

“My people have suffered for years and the development we have seen today is a major boost. We are happy with what the county is doing to upgrade it as it serves thousands of locals daily including accident patients along the busy Thika-Magumu road,” said Mwangi.
