Media fraternity unite to grieve with family of departed People Daily reporter Wahinya

The media fraternity is united in grief following the death of veteran journalist Wahinya Henry who passed on last Saturday, December 7.

Wahinya, 69, was undergoing treatment for colon cancer at the KU Referral Hospital where he was admitted in September and underwent an operation following weeks of chemotherapy sessions at the facility.

The scribe spent close to three months in the wards and was allowed to go home on November….but could not leave the hospital as a result of an unpaid bill of Sh771,000.

He was finally discharged more three weeks later, on Saturday November 30 after clearing the bill. However, barely five days later he was back in the hospital after developing complications and was put in the Intensive Care Unit when his condition deteriorated.

Following his demise, colleagues in the media industry expressed their shock and sorrow at the sad news of losing a who was variously described as an amiable, resilient, humble and respectful gentleman.

People Daily Managing Editor, Emeka-Mayaka Gekara, in a tribute to the fallen writer, described Wahinya as a role model, an affable man and a gentleman.

“Henry was an affable man. A gentleman par excellence who dedicated his journalism around science, way ahead of many in his generation. A role model and trailblazer, he exits the journalism stage with his stripes well earned,” Mayaka

Another journalist Solomon Kyenze said: “He was always gentle and patient with everyone as I recall, just a good person, may his soul rest in eternal peace.”
