The Music Copyright Society of Kenya (MCSK) has announced the distribution of this year’s royalties of Sh34 million to artists, collected for the period between January 1st and March 31st 2020. This is an addition to the first royalty distribution of Sh37.5 million from licensing Performances in Public Places (PPP) for the period between 1st July and 31st December 2019, in the month of February and March 2020.

Speaking to the press, MCSK Chairman Japheth Kasanga has lauded the governments efforts in supporting the creative industry. This comes amidst the announcement of the Sh100 million kitty to artists from the Sports, Culture and Social Development Fund.

“Our deepest gratitude goes to His Excellency Uhuru Kenyatta, the President of the Republic of Kenya for his continued support towards Kenyan artistes. Indeed, in his various speeches, the President has emphasized on the need for compliance particularly in payment of royalties by users of our members’ works,” he stated.

The CMO also thanked the Cabinet Secretary for ICT, Innovation and Youth Affairs, Joseph Mucheru for his continuous advice, guidance and generally overseeing the implementation of the President’s vision for the creative industry

“ His stern position on matters of compliance through payment of royalties by users of our members’ works continues to bear fruit for the ultimate benefit of our members.” He added.
