Ruto in Narok County

Wednesday, May 7, 2025, marks the second day of President William Ruto’s two-day development tour of Narok County.

On Tuesday, May 6, President Ruto kicked off his regional tour following a similar visit to Migori County the previous day. His first day was packed with development initiatives in the region.

One of the key projects he launched was the construction of the Narok International Airport, a Ksh700 million initiative co-funded by the national and county governments.

The airport, which he promised would be completed within 15 months, is designed to strengthen tourism in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve and promote local commerce. It will replace a private airstrip currently affecting wildlife movement.

The President also officially reopened the Ewaso Ng’iro Tannery and Leather Factory, which has undergone significant upgrades.

“The revamped and expanded Ewaso Ng’iro Tannery and Leather Factory is a compelling testament to our commitment to reviving our manufacturing sector,” he stated.

Further, Ruto handed over title deeds for 103,000 acres in the Maasai Mau Forest and flagged off construction of a 100-kilometre fence meant to protect the forest, an important water catchment area.

“We are now on the path to accelerating growth through our numerous development projects that are stimulating the economy and generating inclusive wealth,” he said.

He also revealed that the government had acquired 6,000 acres from Kedong Ranch to resettle Narok residents and distributed title deeds to the new landowners.

Charles Were’s requiem mass

The requiem mass for the late Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma, who chairs the funeral committee, announced this during a briefing held on May 2, 2025.

Kaluma revealed that the mass will take place in Nairobi at the Holy Family Basilica, although he noted the venue is still awaiting final confirmation. He said the mass will be followed by the transportation of the body to Homa Bay the next day.

“The requiem mass will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, hopefully at the Holy Family Basilica. On Thursday, following the requiem mass, we will transport the body home, and the body will be flown to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay before the body is transported to his home for the final rites,” Kaluma stated.

According to Kaluma, the late MP’s body will be flown to Kabunde Airstrip in Homa Bay on Thursday, May 8, 2025, before being taken to his home, where final rites will be conducted ahead of his burial.

The burial ceremony is scheduled for Friday, May 9, 2025, at Were’s home in Homa Bay County.

The lawmaker’s death has left the nation in mourning, and preparations for his farewell have been ongoing as investigations into his murder continue.
