Here is what you need to know to keep up to speed with today’s happenings.
Prayer breakfast
One of the important events to look out for today is the National Prayer Breakfast, which will take place at the Safari Park Hotel.
Held under the auspices of the Speakers of the National Assembly and the Senate and organised by a volunteer committee, it has become a significant platform for reflection and dialogue in Kenya since its inception in 2003.
This year, the 22nd Kenya National Prayer Breakfast was rescheduled to Wednesday, May 28, from its traditional Thursday slot. Themed “Rise and Rebuild”, the event was organised by Parliament and announced by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula. It aims to continue fostering reflection and unity. The event remains a cornerstone of Kenya’s national calendar, promoting ethical leadership and harmony.
The president is expected to attend and will be among the chief guests, along with his deputy and other top government officials.
Preparations for Madaraka Day
Preparations for the 2025 Madaraka Day celebrations are in full gear, with Homa Bay County hosting the national event for the first time. The celebrations will take place at the Raila Odinga Stadium.
The Raila Odinga Stadium is undergoing major renovations. Public terraces are over 70% complete, the pavilion is being rehabilitated, and the stadium is being expanded to hold up to 12,000 people. The perimeter wall is 80% done, and the parking areas are 60% complete.
The Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is grading the Wahambla–Imbo (11 km) and Ruga–Lala (12 km) roads. The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) is also repairing 10.8 km of roads near the stadium. Gachagua’s expected reaction to venue cancellation
Today, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is expected to respond to the cancellation of DCP’s booking of the Kasarani Indoor Arena by Sports Kenya.

This follows a statement released last night by the party deputy leader, confirming that the venue would no longer be available for their planned event.
According to the statement, the management of the facility advised them to look for an alternative venue, citing preparations for CHAN 2025 as the reason for the cancellation.
The party had booked the venue on May 21 and paid the full amount for its use on June 3.
DCP Secretary General Cleophas Malala has accused the government of being behind the cancellation, terming the move petty and aimed at frustrating the party’s official launch. Other DCP leaders are also expected to issue statements on the matter later today.
Natembeya’s return
Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya is set to resume his official duties, with county operations now temporarily relocated to Kiminini.

This follows a directive barring him from accessing the county headquarters in Kitale for 60 days to allow investigations into corruption allegations levelled against him.
Speaking on Monday, May 26, during his return, Governor Natembeya addressed residents of Kiminini and confirmed the shift, urging all Trans Nzoia residents who require his services or need to reach him to visit his new temporary office in Kiminini.
Kiminini, located just a few metres from Kitale town along the Kitale-Kisumu highway, lies within Kiminini Constituency.
