Reactions after Gachagua’s party launch
Reactions are expected after the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua launched his Democracy for Citizens (DCP) Party in Lavington on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
With the launch of the party, which Gachagua hopes to consolidate the Mount Kenya voting bastion, the stage is set for the battle for the presidency in 2027, even as President William Ruto sets his sights on regions that previously voted against him.
Gachagua’s party launch was, however, marked with violence as it came to a close when goons began pelting vehicles with stones, sending the whole delegation, including the journalists covering the event, into a frenzy.
In the aftermath, several people were injured in the stampede that ensued. Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen says preliminary investigations point to disagreement over money for Gachagua’s supporters as the cause of the violence.
Gachagua, however, insists that this was a government-sponsored operation by goons to disrupt his function, as has happened during other public gatherings.
“Stop sending goons to attack me, my family, and supporters. We have rights and freedoms to enjoy like other Kenyans,” Gachagua indicated in a statement on Thursday evening, May 15, 2025.
Finance Bill public participation
Public participation on the proposed budget estimates for the financial year 2025/2026 is expected to continue today ahead of the first reading of the bill when the House reconvenes on May 27, 2025.
“The bill contains proposals relating to revenue-raising measures, including provisions to ease tax administration and clean up the statute book of terms and cross-references to provisions that have previously been repealed,” the Clerk of the National Assembly said.
On Thursday, May 15, 2025, residents of Uasin-Gishu County provided their views on the proposed budgets and their impact on the local citizens.
“We have successfully conducted a budget public participation hearing for UASIN GISHU county at the County Hall in Eldoret City. Many thanks to MPs David Kiplagat (Soy), Julius Rutto (Kesses), and Janet Sitienei (Turbo) for the wonderful organisation,” Chairperson of the Budget and Appropriations Committee Samuel Atandi said.
