Matiang’i says no to another holiday on Monday

Some Kenyans wanted Monday to be declared a public holiday but Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said no.
Immediately after legendary Olympic Champion Eliud Kipchoge ran the 42km race in a staggering 1:59:40, jubilations filled Kenya’s social media spaces. In the midst of the excitement, some Facebook and Twitter users demanded that Matiang’i declare Monday a public holiday to honour Kipchoge.
A Facebook user ‘Njogu wa Njoroge’ posted, ‘Matiang’i ! Matiang’i ! Matiang’i Nimekuita mara ngapi? Usipotupatia holiday Monday, tutajua uko na shida na sisi’ Translated it means; Matiang’i Matiang’i, how many times did I call you? If you deny us a holiday on Monday, we shall conclude you have a problem with us.
In less than five hours, the post had over 2K likes and 500 comments. Most people agreeing that Monday should be a holiday.
Shortly after Saturday afternoon, a notice began circulating purportedly to be from CS Matiang’i, The document was identical to the National Gazette Notice and it declared Monday a public holiday.
Just like they received the news of Kipchoge’s victory, some unsuspecting Kenyan’s expressed excitement of Monday being a day off from work.
CS Matiang’i also saw the notice and termed it as fake on his Twitter handle
