Maraga praises Octopizzo’s creative courage inspiring youth
By Kiprono Keileb, December 7, 2025Former Chief Justice David Maraga has lauded Kenyan musician and entrepreneur Henry Ohanga, popularly known as Octopizzo, for using creativity and innovation to uplift young people and contribute to national transformation.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, December 7, 2025, Maraga described Octopizzo as an example of the kind of courage, talent and initiative that Kenya’s youth need to embrace as they pursue opportunities in the creative economy.
The former CJ said he had spent time with the artist and his team, where he witnessed firsthand the projects they are working on.
“It is inspiring to see young people taking courageous steps in creativity and entrepreneurship. Henry Ohanga, aka Octopizzo, is one such inspiring person,” Maraga said.
Building a humane society
He added that the visit left him encouraged by the impact that creative ventures can have when young people are supported and given space to grow. Maraga said such initiatives help build a more grounded and humane society, especially at a time when many Kenyans are seeking new ways to empower communities and expand economic opportunities.
“I was honoured to join him and his team to see some of their work. We must continue to encourage our young people to use their creativity and innovation to reset our country to the rule of law and restore our humanity,” he said.
During the visit, Maraga interacted with some of the young people engaged in the artist’s initiatives, many of whom come from underserved communities. He noted that creative platforms, whether in music, design, digital arts or entrepreneurship, can play a transformative role in shaping responsible citizenship and reducing vulnerability among the youth.
The former CJ also stressed the importance of grounding young people in values such as discipline, respect for the law and integrity, arguing that creativity can be a powerful channel for promoting those ideals.
Maraga said that Kenya must continue celebrating and investing in young innovators who are working to shift narratives and build a more hopeful future..
