Manyora: The National Prayer Breakfast was a gathering of pretenders
By Mabonga Makhanu, May 29, 2026Political analyst Herman Manyora has termed the National Prayer Breakfast, held at a Nairobi hotel on Thursday, May 28, 2026, a gathering of pretenders.
While speaking during his daily analysis on his YouTube channel on Thursday, May 29, 2026, the outspoken political commentator went full throttle at the prayer meeting, adding that it was a gathering of looters.

“That was a gathering of pretenders; people who gathered there are the people who have destroyed this country and continue to destroy it. If they were truly sons of God, then this country would not be where it is now. Those are the people who are responsible for all the mess in this country,” he said.
The analyst further explained that the people who gathered at the National Prayer Breakfast are the same individuals who should be blamed for the current economic slowdown being witnessed in the country.
He argued that if they were truly sons and daughters of God as they were claiming, then the country would not be where it is currently.
He also took issue with the theme of the prayer breakfast, reconciliation and forgiveness, saying that the events at the meeting were a stark contrast to the rallying call.
He stated that the same leaders who in the past have been on the campaign trail calling each other names and insults cannot purport to be talking about forgiveness and reconciliation.
Orwoba’s take

His remarks echo those by former nominated senator Gloria Orwoba, who also criticised the prayer breakfast, saying that it was a gathering of non-believers who had gathered while purporting to be agents of God.
National Prayer Breakfast
This comes after the 23rd Kenya National Prayer Breakfast, which was characterised by pomp and colour and saw top leaders in the country, led by the president, taking part in prayers.
What became noticeable to many was that the president took a wide berth from the day’s theme, and at no given point did he focus on it, but instead used the occasion as an avenue to showcase what his administration has achieved in the past four years.
During the same occasion, he declared that should he be defeated at the polls in next year’s general election, he will accept the defeat and go home with honour, and he expects the same from whoever he will defeat.
