Man wants Thang’wah barred from Senate race

Kiambu United Democratic Alliance (UDA) senatorial candidate Karungo wa Thang’wah risks being locked out of the general election after a new suit was filed in court yesterday challenging his clearance.
In documents filed in court, Charles Maina Kariuki wants the High Court to bar Thang’wa from vying for the seat on grounds that he is unfit to hold public office, having been impeached.
“Thang’wa was removed and /or dismissed from office as the County Executive Committee Member for youths Affairs, Sports, ICT and Communication through a resolution passed by the County Assembly of Kiambu on November 19, 2019, the said resolution has never been challenged or adjudicated upon before any competent court,” says Maina.
The petitioner argues, therefore, the clearance of Thang’wah to contest for the election by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) constitutes a violation of Articles 75(3) and 99 of the constitution.
Maina also wants his case heard by a three judge bench appointed by the Chief Justice Martha Koome with the exclusion of Justice Antony Mrima, David Majanja, Mugure Thande and Eunice Ngetich on the basis that they have already dealt with similar disputes relating to Thang’wah’s qualification to vie.
