Man set ablaze after killing wife over land dispute

A 64-year-old man from Mbooni East in Makueni County was burnt to death on Sunday, April 19, by an angry crowd after he allegedly killed his wife following a land dispute.

Boniface Mutua Kitunguu is said to have attacked his wife Ruth Kavisi Mutua with a panga after a misunderstanding on a land issue.

According to a report by KBC, the woman raised an alarm before dying which prompted a response from neighbours. Mutua tried to run but furious crowd baying for his blood cornered him and set him on fire, alive.

Makueni County Police Commander Joseph Ole Naipeyan who confirmed the two deaths said the assailant tried to escape after committing the heinous act but was intercepted by irate wananchi who set him ablaze.

The bodies of the deceased persons were taken to Machakos County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation awaiting autopsy.
