Makueni governor asks Ruto to release subsidized seeds before October
Makueni County Governor Mutula Kilonzo Junior has called upon President William Ruto to consider releasing subsidized seeds before the beginning of short rains in October.
Governor Mutula Jnr’s request comes shortly after the new president announced the price of fertilizer will go down to Ksh3,500 from the current Ksh6500.
“While the big farmers from North Rift need the subsidized fertilizer, the people of South Eastern region can get the benefit of subsidized seeds and the fertilizer,” Mutula said.
Ruto announced the fertilizer subsidy in his speech during his inauguration on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
Governor Mutula Jnr has also called for a meeting between the national government and counties to get a solution to the long droughts which has affected so many people in different regions.
Meanwhile, the Makueni governor also applauded Ruto’s comments on the release of funds and transfer of functions to the counties.
“We have no resources because the government is holding them like Makueni county has not received their release of funds since June of this year,” Mutula said.
Kilonzo also congratulated President Ruto on his election win.
On Saturday, September 10, 2022, the Makueni governor urged Kamba leaders to fulfil the promise they made to the community now that they will be in the new government.
