Makau Mutua has slammed the infighting among members of the Orange Democratic Party (ODM) over the exact position of its fallen leader on the broad-based arrangement.

In a statement on his X page on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Mutua, who refrained from specifying Raila’s stance, simply stated that the ODM leader’s stance was crystal clear.

Futile infighting

“It’s FUTILE to second-guess, or fight about, what Baba Raila Odinga wanted for Kenya, ODM, and his political partnership with the President @WilliamsRuto. It’s crystal clear — no ambiguities,” he said.

The Victims Compensation framework chairman has demanded that ODM put an end to their wrangling over the matter following the divergent debate witnessed during Raila’s burial on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Bondo.

He stated that the members should instead reflect on Raila’s action for a conclusive answer.

“The answer lay in his actions. ACTIONS, not mere words. So, stop the fights,” he concluded.

Focus on Raila’s actions

His remarks come as a section of the party members stepped up their support for Ruto under the broad-based arrangement.

Kakamega governor Fernandes Barasa recently addressed the possibilities of Ruto joining the party ahead of the 2027 elections.

In his assertions, Barasa stated that Ruto’s chances of joining the party were not far-fetched.

“Ruto is a founder member of ODM, and do not be surprised to see him joining our party. He said that he would deal with people looking to break up the party. This party has people who are in government, and in 2027, we are confident we will either make the government or be there as a coalition,” he stated.

He also assured that the party’s united stance post-Raila, stressing that the members remaining behind would ensure it remains steadfast.

ODM remains steadfast

“The party is ready, and to those who think ODM will disintegrate, I want to say woe upon them,” he stated.

Kisii Governor Simba Arati, Gladys Wanga and John Mbadi have also addressed the recent controversial subject on separate occasions.
