Machakos Deputy Governor Francis Mwangangi has asked Parliament to thoroughly vet President William Ruto’s  Cabinet nominees and reject those tainted by corruption.

Mwangangi said Parliament had been offered another chance to redeem itself after what appeared to be a vote of no confidence on the House when young protesters stormed the complex a few weeks ago.

Strong message

The DG, who spoke on Sunday at King’oti ABC Church in Matungulu, said the invasion of Parliament for the first time in history was a strong message to leaders not to conduct business as usual but be careful in the decisions that they make regarding the affairs of the country.

“Wananchi getting into Parliament was like a vote of no confidence in the government,” he said.

“Let Parliament now vet the cabinet nominees and pick clean Kenyans who are not tainted by corruption.”

Mwangangi also urged Kenyans to support Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka for President while reminding them that Musyoka was vice president under President Mwai Kibaki when the country experienced great economic growth and development.

Bargaining power

He asked Kenyans to give Musyoka a chance so that he can continue from where Kibaki left.

Mwangangi also challenged political leaders in the Ukambani region to unite in order to boost the community’s political bargaining power on the national platform.

He said political unity was inevitable if the Kamba community is to improve its stake in national politics.

The DG said wrangles among some leaders in the region are causing division among the community.

“It’s important for our political leaders to set their differences and ambitions aside and come together and speak with one voice in politics and chart their political future to avoid splitting the community,”he added.
