Lusaka reveals his next political step after gubernatorial tenure
By Mabonga Makhanu, August 23, 2025Bungoma Governor Ken Lusaka has revealed that his next focus will be on the national level after completing his gubernatorial tenure.
While speaking in an interview on a local TV station on Friday, August 22, 2025, Lusaka stated that he is now concluding his politics at the county level and will shift his attention to the national stage, possibly the executive or another key role. He highlighted his long career in public service, noting that he has served as a district commissioner, governor, speaker, and principal secretary.

“I am now concluding my politics in the counties; I will be now focusing on the national level, maybe the executive or something of the sort. I have done many things; I have been a district commissioner, I have been a governor, and I have been a speaker,” Lusaka stated.
He explained that he has done almost everything at the county level, and since the constitution does not allow him to run for another term as governor, he will now focus on national politics. He also expressed gratitude to the people of Bungoma for giving him the opportunity and exposure to serve them.
Lusaka further added that after doing a lot for the people of Bungoma, he now wants to compete in the national space, having already given his best in serving the county.
I think I have done almost everything. I will be focusing on the national politics since at the county level the constitution does not allow me to run for another term, and I thank the people of Bungoma for giving me this opportunity and exposure.
“After having done a lot for Bungoma people, I want now to compete in the national space since in the county I have done my best to serve my people,” he added.
Lusaka’s gubernatorial tenure
Governor Ken Lusaka has had a long day in politics. During his first term as governor, he was entangled in the wheelbarrow scandal, something that made headlines then. He later lost his seat to Bungoma’s second governor, Wickliffe Wangamati, whom he later came to defeat in 2022.
