Luanda residents storm police station, protest increased cases of insecurity
By Enock Amukhale, March 9, 2026Operations were paralysed at Luanda police station after irate residents stormed the facility to protest the rising cases of insecurity in the area.
The charged residents, led by the Luanda Member of Parliament Dick Maungu, thronged the station where they sought an audience with Luanda OCPD Richard Siele.
The residents called on police officers to address the surging cases of insecurity in Luanda.
While marching, waving placards on Monday, March 9 2026, the residents decried that they had witnessed high-rise cases of insecurity in the area.
The residents explained that criminals armed with firearms are terrorising innocent people, despite the police presence in the area.
“We want answers from Luanda OCPD inspector Siele what he is doing to fight cases of insecurity in Luanda. We have criminals armed with firearms killing our people. Our business people are being killed by criminals,” chanted the residents.
On his part, the legislator noted that most of the criminals killing people are armed with firearms, which he says are only owned by police officers.
“We have reached a point where mob justice will be applied if the police have failed. Ukiua kwa upanga utakufa kwa upanga, ukiua kwa risasi utakufa kwa risasi,” Maungu said.

On the other hand, the Launda Ward member of the County Assembly, David Onjiri, narrated a past ordeal where police officers were attacked with their firearms stolen.
“If criminals have gone to the extent of attacking police officers and stealing firearms from them, is the public safe?” posed Onjiri.
The late Beverlyn Charity an Mpesa operator at Luanda market was killed by criminals armed with G-3 riffle moment after closing her Mpesa shop at Luanda town.
The criminals waylaid her on her way home.
In response to the incident, the Luanda OCPD Richard Siele announced that the person of interest in the Mpesa lady murder has been arrested and arraigned in court.
“We have arrested one suspect in connection with the robbery incident. Detectives from the department of criminal investigations unit(DCI) are persuing the incident,” said Siele.
Siele also promised to intensify night security patrols to enhance security at Luanda town.
” I have heard your complains and from now we are going to intensify security patrols. All criminals elements will be dealt with decisively,” said Siele.
