Nyamira County Government has unveiled a one-month massive cancer screening drive.

Concerns are already piling following rising numbers of people dying from ailment.

Government experts and partners in the Non-Governmental Organisations will screen people for cervical, breast and prostate cancers.

“It is worrying that cancer cases are on the rise in the region,” county First Lady Emily Nyaribo said when she launched the exercise at Ekerenyo sub-county in North Mugirango constituency yesterday.

First Lady said the exercise will be entirely free and appealed to resident to take advantage of the programme in order to know their status.

“The government thought it important to hold a free screening since the disease was now claiming many lives” she noted.

During yesterday’s event at Ekerenyo, Kisumu county First Lady Dorothy Nyongo urged residents to take regular cancer tests to avert late diagnosis.

“The screening will help to establish stages of cancer and help in treating the disease,” she noted.

Exercise has been organised by the office of the First Lady, Africa Cancer Foundation, International Cancer Institute, Cancer for Women and the Nyamira Referral Hospital.
