Ledama tells Cabinet Secretaries to stop politicking, focus on policy
By Cy Muganda, August 17, 2025Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has launched a scathing attack on Cabinet Secretaries, accusing them of prioritising electoral politics over policy implementation.
In a strongly-worded statement posted on his X account on Sunday, August 17, 2025, the outspoken Senator told Cabinet Secretaries to draw a clear line between politics and governance once they assume office.
“Cabinet Secretaries, politics ends when you take office,” he wrote.
Ledama specifically called out Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, condemning his continued engagement in political discourse despite holding an executive position.
“Duale & co, you talk elections more than policy—shame!” Ledama stated in his post.

Kenya’s political focus
In a particularly pointed comparison, Ledama contrasted Kenya’s political focus with the United Arab Emirates’ development approach.
He highlighted how the Gulf nation had transformed itself through long-term planning and implementation despite its harsh environment, while Kenya, he lamented, remained trapped in endless political contestations.
“Look at the UAE: a desert building a nation, while we politic 24/7. How do you expect Kenyans to survive the future?” the senator questioned.
The Narok senator concluded his statement with an emphatic demand for Cabinet Secretaries to change their approach to governance.
“Cut it out!” he declared.

Focus on nation-building
This statement comes days after he called on Kenyans and media outlets to shift their focus from political bickering to economic transformation, arguing that constant political commentary is hindering the nation’s progress.
The Narok Senator, in a statement issued on his social media accounts on July 25, 2025, suggested delaying political evaluations of President William Ruto’s administration until the 2027 elections.

He proposed that the next 16 months be dedicated to implementing development projects.
“This is the time to unite and focus on economic development. We can evaluate the president’s performance in 2027. Let’s not allow divisive politics to dominate headlines,” he said.
