League of Arab States vows further cooperation with AU on peace, security

ADDIS ABABA,

The League of Arab States (LAS) has expressed its keen interest to further strengthen its cooperation with the African Union (AU) and to provide support to ensure peace and stability in the immediate African neighborhood of the Arab World.
  

Speaking at the opening of the 33rd AU summit in Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa, the LAS Secretary General, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, said the two sides must strengthen common action to address the security challenges and root causes of the political crisis that undermine the stability of the countries.
  

He reiterated the cooperation between the two sides in peace and stability and combating terrorism in different parts of Africa.
  

Gheit mentioned the cooperation on countries including South Sudan, Somalia, reiterating on the need to consolidate joint efforts in the area.  (Xinhua)
