Leaders call for peace after outcome of petition
Two governors yesterday called on Kenyans to maintain peace regardless of the outcome of the Supreme Court ruling.
Kajiado Governor Joseph ole Lenku and his Kilifi counterpart, Gideon Mung’aro, urged Kenyans to exercise tolerance since the country was greater than any one person. Speaking at ACK St Paul Kiserian and AIC Matasia, Lenku said Kenyans should accept the court’s verdict to enable the country forge ahead. Lenku lamented that petty politics, even after last month’s elections, had derailed development due to anxiety and uncertainty among Kenyans.
“I call upon all Kenyans to remain calm and maintain peace ahead of the Supreme Court’s ruling. We have a country to protect after tomorrow. We are facing many challenges as a country, such as the ravaging drought. The sooner we go back to our normal lives the better. Let us pray for Solomonic wisdom from the judges whose competence we hold highly, “ he said.
Mung’aro, on his part, asked the people of Kilifi and Kenyans at large to remain calm as the country awaits the judges’ verdict. Addressing the congregation when he attended church services at Pangani Methodist Church in Kambe/Ribe, Rabai sub county, Mung’aro said it was clear there is anxiety all over the country but expressed optimism that whatever the outcome, Kenya will remain united.
“I know there is a lot of anxiety currently because of the expected ruling. But I want to ask my people in Kilifi and Kenyans at large to remain calm and wait for the judgment. I know there is some discomfort amongst Kenya’s but I believe in our institutions and hopefully the outcome should not in any way divide this country,” said Mung’aro.
