Leaders continue to differ on whether to amend BBI proposals
Leaders from Western region have continued to differ on whether the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) report should be passed in its current form or not.
While a section of the leaders want the report amended, others insist report in its current form is good for the country and ought to be passed as it is.
Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende, who has supported the report, asked politicians opposed to it to allow Kenyans read and make informed decisions.
Speaking in Luanda, Vihiga, Marende observed that BBI report is good for Kenyans and any disputed sections can be amended through the National Assembly.
He cautioned politicians against making speeches, which may divide Kenyans further on the contents of the report.
Marende said Kenyans passed the 2010 Constitution and some of the disputed sections were amended in the National Assembly.
“Let us not create divisions on those supporting or opposing BBI. The document is good and in-case of any disputed sections they can be amended through the National assembly,” said Marende.
Only support
But separately, Vihiga Senator George Khaniri and his Kakamega counterpart Cleophas Malala said they will only support the report if they there would be an opportunity to amend the controversial sections.
Duo differed with political leaders pushing for the adoption of the report without amending disputed sections.
Khaniri and Malala while speaking in different events in their respective counties said the BBI report should be amended before it is subjected to a referendum.
