The National Assembly speaker, Moses Wetang’ula, has come out with praises to a select group of Members of Parliament, applauding them for being transparent in their duties.

Taking to his official X account on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, Wetang’ula, who presided over the 2026 Legislative Retreat of the National Assembly, convened under the theme “Securing Parliamentary Legacy”, applauded the Pension Committee members.

“Lawmakers are the heartbeat of Parliament; their constitutional mandates are fulfilled through performing their cardinal duties of legislation, representation, and oversight,” Wetangula said.

While affirming his support for the Parliamentary Pensions Management Committee, Wetang’ula revealed plans to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of legislators’ welfare and integrity after public service.

“In my capacity as the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), I held a conversation with the Parliamentary Pensions Management Committee and reiterated my commitment to improving the efficiency and effectiveness of legislators’ welfare and integrity after public service,” he added.

On his part, while praising the Parliamentary Pensions Management Committee, Wetang’ula explained that the team had been diligent and transparent, especially while dealing with four Parliamentary Pensions Amendment Bills.

“The four Parliamentary Pensions Amendment Bills before the House should be reviewed to have a concrete direction. I commend Members of the Pensions Committee for their stewardship of the Scheme, which has been marked by diligence, transparency, and a commitment to continuous improvement,” Wetang’ula stated.

Wetang’ula’s sentiments come months after Ruto accused MPs of being corrupt.
