Landslides displace 50 families in Kisii

More than 50 residents of Mokubo village, Magenche Ward in Kisii County were on Thursday rendered homeless after a landslide damaged their houses and destroyed crops.

Mokubo location Chief, Samwel Omambia said the road from Eberege –Etago, linking Kenyenya and Etago sub counties was cut off, trees swept and three houses buried following heavy rainfall which pounded the area.

Speaking to People Daily on phone, the administrator urged well wishers   to support locals with food stuff and bedding, adding the victims have since been moved to safer grounds to save their lives.

He said the area is prone to landslides and appealed to geologists to visit the area to find out the cause of the problem for the government to address it.

 “ This is the third time the landslide is displacing residents. Resident live in fear and want the government to intervene and find a long lasting solution,” Omambia said.
