Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has recommended murder charges against Collins Khalusha (pictured), Amos Momanyi, and Moses Ogembo in connection with last month’s gruesome killings at the Kware dumpsite in Embakasi, Nairobi County.

Police investigations linked the trio to the murders. The suspects have been in custody for a month pending the outcome of the investigation.

Appearing before Makadara Principal Magistrate Irene Gichobi, Inspector Patrick Wachira from the DCI stated that six police files had been prepared, and the suspects would be charged with murder under section 203, as read with section 204 of the Penal Code.

“The three are likely to be charged with killing six women, who are the only ones positively identified so far, out of 17 bodies recovered from the scene,” Wachira informed the court.

The identified victims include Roseline Akoth, whose phone was found in Momanyi’s possession. The court heard that Momanyi, upon arrest, led police to Ogembo, who claimed to have acquired the phone from Khalusha.

The other five victims are Josephine Mulongo, Christine Mwende, Wilkister Ososo, Brenda Shatuma, and Imelda Karenya, who was Khalusha’s wife.

Investigations still ongoing

Wachira further told the court that investigations are still ongoing and requested an additional 21 days to detain the suspects in order to finalize the case. Momanyi claims that he bought Akoth’s phone from Ogembo, who was found with over 160 mobile phones currently under investigation.

Wachira noted that Ogembo’s shop in Mukuru kwa Reuben slums was allegedly operating as an illegal business used to dispose of mobile phones belonging to murder victims.

The phones found on the suspects were used to register 26 SIM cards, all of which are under investigation. One of the phones belonged to Josephine Mulongo.

Magistrate Gichobi ordered.
