KRA official guilty of Sh7.8m fraud

By , January 13, 2023

A former KRA official has been found guilty of obtaining more than Sh7.8 million by false pretence.

Peter Muhu Muriuki is accused of pretending that his law firm was authorised to collect taxes.

Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi ruled that the accused did not dispute the allegations that he was a KRA officer.

Ochoi said Muriuki misled Scripture Mission East Africa that his law firm was entitled to collect taxes.

The magistrate said Muriuki induced the director of Scripture Mission East Africa to deliver Sh7.8 million to an account belonging to Mungu and Co-advocates by falsely pretending the law firm was an agent of KRA and authorised to collect taxes.

The magistrate will this morning deliver sentence.
