KPA CEO William Ruto involved in road accident, daughter dies
By Faith Lagat, April 4, 2026The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is mourning alongside its Managing Director, Capt. William Ruto, following a road accident that claimed the life of his daughter.
According to KPA, the accident occurred on the evening of April 3, 2026, while Capt. Ruto was travelling with members of his family.
In a staff notice issued on April 4, the authority confirmed the tragic loss and expressed condolences to the family.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while traveling with his family. Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident. We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during this time of immense grief.”
Family members in stable condition
Ruto and the rest of his family, who were in the vehicle, survived the accident and are reported to be in stable condition. According to the notice, they are currently receiving close medical supervision as they recover from injuries sustained during the crash.

The authority did not provide further details about the condition of the other family members but indicated that medical teams were closely monitoring their recovery.
The accident is reported to have occurred in the Taita Taveta area along the transport corridor linking Mombasa to the interior of the country.
Authorities investigating accident
KPA said it is cooperating with relevant authorities to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident.
“We are cooperating with the relevant authorities as they establish the circumstances surrounding the incident. We will continue to provide updates as appropriate and as more information becomes available.”
The authority also appealed to the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy during the difficult period.
Support from leaders
The authority acknowledged the support extended by local leaders following the accident. In the staff notice, KPA thanked Mombasa Governor Abduswamud Sharif Nassir and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for their swift assistance after the incident.
KPA also expressed gratitude to its staff, partners, stakeholders and members of the public for their continued support.
Ruto has served as Managing Director of KPA since 2023. The authority said it will provide updates if more information becomes available.
