Konoin MP proposes relocation of residents to expand an institute in the area
Konoin Member of Parliament Brighton Yegon has proposed the relocation of residents living around Konoin Technical Institute to pave the way for the expansion of the institute.
Speaking on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, during a morning talk show on a local station, Yegon said the move is necessary to create space for the institution’s expansion and planned upgrade into a national training facility within Bomet County.
“We want, in the next two to three years, the institute to be upgraded. We are aiming at making it to be a national polytechnic. What we want is to grow this institution for the benefit of our young people,” Yegon said.

The lawmaker assured the community members that all the affected families will be consulted and compensated so that the land can be delivered to the institute.
“We are ready to engage the community and even buy land for relocation where necessary to make sure the institution’s land meets the ministry’s qualification to upgrade it,” Yegon Said.
Public Participation
Yegon revealed that the constituency leadership is open to negotiations, including purchasing alternative land for affected residents. He noted that discussions are already underway to ensure a mutually beneficial agreement is reached.
He also revealed that they are going to build a modern primary school for the neighbouring school so that they merge the primary land with the institute part.

“We are also going to talk with the primary school within, we see if we can build them a modern primary school outside the institution for them to give us this land,” Yegon said.
Ksh20 million workshop
He said the institution has laid the foundation of the Ksh20 million four-floor workshop in the facility, and they are aiming at removing old structures that the students are currently using.
“I had allocated the supplementary budget of Ksh 20 million last year, and the money is already at the institution. In fact, they are laying the foundation today of the workshop because we need to construct a four-floor facility and remove old structures over the institution,” Yegon explained.
Yegon added that a series of public participation forums will be conducted to involve residents in decision-making and address any concerns surrounding the proposed expansion.
