Koimburi pleads not guilty to self-abduction, granted Ksh300K cash bail
By Zipporah Ngwatu, July 23, 2025Juja Member of Parliament (MP) George Koimburi has pleaded not guilty to charges of stage-managing his abduction, false publications, and conspiracy to defeat justice, contrary to Section 117(c) of the Penal Code.
The frail-looking and sickly MP appeared before Milimani Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhubi on Wednesday, July 23, 2025, after an order was issued requiring him to avail himself in court.
During the proceedings, State Prosecutor Victor Owiti requested the court to issue an order for the accused person to avail himself for fingerprint taking on Thursday, July 23, 2025.
“Your honour, I urge the court to order his lawyer to make arrangements with the Investigating Officer for the accused person to avail himself for fingerprint taking,” State Prosecutor Owiti told the court.
However, the defence lawyer objected to the prosecution’s application, telling the court that the legislator would be attending his clinics on Thursday and Friday, proposing the exercise be carried out in early August.
“Your honour, my client has clinics tomorrow (Thursday) and Friday. He cannot manage to avail himself for the fingerprint processing. I propose we do the processing on Tuesday, July 29, 2025,” Koimburi’s lawyer told the court.
The State remained adamant, arguing that he could also appear for the fingerprint processing on Saturday or Sunday of this week.
Magistrate Ekhubi ordered the accused person to avail himself for the process on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 9 am.

“The first accused person is to avail himself on Friday, July 25, 2025, for fingerprint taking at 9 AM. I will adopt the previous Ksh300,000 cash bail terms and three contact persons for the accused,” Magistrate Ekhubi ruled.
Koimburi is accused alongside Peter Kiratu, a man identified as Njuguna alias Njugush, Kanyenya-ini MCA Grace Nduta Wairimu, Peter Kiratu Mbari, David Macharia Gatana, and Cyrus Muhia, who are said to have participated in the self-abduction.
According to the charge sheet, the seven are said to have, on May 25, 2025, at the Mugutha area in Juja Sub-County, Kiambu County, jointly conspired to defeat justice by stage-managing the abduction of George Koimburi Ndungu.
The Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) states that the plan to stage-manage the abduction was meant to block the MP’s arrest in a case where he is charged with four counts in relation to land fraud.
“The seven conspired to stage-manage the abduction that was meant to prevent Koimburi’s arrest and arraignment at Kiambu Law Courts, to answer to charges as directed by the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) via their letter reference ODPP/HQ/CAM/13/475 dated May 20, 2025,” part of the charge sheet read.
The matter will be mentioned on August 5, 2025.
