KNEC releases 2024 KCSE certificates to schools nationwide
By Faith Lagat, December 19, 2025The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has officially dispatched the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination certificates to schools across the country.
The development was confirmed in an official announcement via KNEC’s X account on December 18, 2025, detailing the distribution process and providing guidance for candidates on collection.
According to the post, it noted that the 2024 KCSE examination certificates had been dispatched to all schools that presented candidates for the examination through the Sub-County Director of Education offices countrywide.
“The 2024 KCSE examination certificates have been dispatched to all schools that presented candidates for the examination through the Sub-County Director of Education offices countrywide.”
Candidates who sat for the 2024 KCSE exams are advised to coordinate with their former schools to access their certificates.
The announcement further advises the candidates to liaise with the schools where they sat the examination to collect the certificates. This procedure ensures that former students can obtain their official credentials directly from the institutions where they completed secondary education.

Emphasis on legality and protection of candidates
A key highlight of the announcement is the warning against withholding certificates. KNEC underscores that no school is legally permitted to retain certificates for any reason, including outstanding fees.
This directive provides a legal safeguard for candidates, ensuring that all students have timely access to their examination credentials and a clear reporting mechanism in case of violations.
“It is illegal to withhold a certificate from a candidate. any candidate whose certificate is withheld should report to the sub-county director of education.”

Structured nationwide distribution
The certificates were dispatched through the Sub-County Director of Education offices, allowing a systematic nationwide rollout to all participating schools. This approach follows established KNEC procedures, where documents are verified, printed, and distributed post-results release.
The release comes nearly a year after the 2024 KCSE examinations were conducted and results announced earlier in 2025. These certificates are critical for students pursuing higher education, employment, or further certifications.
KNEC also provided additional resources for candidates seeking more information, including its official website, www.knec.ac.ke, and social media handles #KNECKenya and knec_kenya.
