KNEC insists 2022 KCSE did not leak
The Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) has stood firm that the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) did not leak.
The council led by its CEO David Njeng’ere strongly refuted claims that the national exams leaked noting that most people paid rogue agents who masqueraded as Knec officers.
“We will share the social media sites that claim to have those ‘genuine’ examination papers. People pay money to rogue agents. They have been made to believe those sharing the papers are Knec officers. They are not,” Njeng’ere stated.
He explained that it was impossible for the buyers to access genuine papers since only a specific number of people are granted access to them once the exams are set.
“It is not possible for people to access those examination papers prior. Enter those social media sites, get those papers and keep them. Wait for November and compare them with the actual papers,” Njeng’ere added.
At the same time, Njeng’ere dismissed allegations that some principals who were examination centre managers had prior information about the practicals that would be done.
He explained that while advance instructions are sent to schools, the papers have no questions that candidates will be given.
“These advance instructions don’t come with questions that candidates will be given,” he stated.
Njeng’ere was speaking at Pride Inn Mombasa where he was grilled by the National Assembly Education Committee led by Tiinderet Member of Parliament (MP) Julius Melly.
Cheating in 2022 KCSE
Initial reports claimed that some KNEC officials facilitated exam cheating during the 2022 KCSE.
The information was disclosed by MP Melly during a hearing session in Mombasa in March this year.
The committee wondered why there was a sudden change in the performance of some schools that had recorded good grades
in their exams.
“There was cheating in the exam of 2022. And the members of the public have put it very clear that most of the cheating originated from the council itself,” Melly stated.
