Kitutu Chache North Member of Parliament (MP) Japheth Nyakundi has disclosed the assent to plans to dual the Kisii-Kaplong-Oyugis Road.

In a statement on his X page on Sunday, November 23, 2025, the UDA treasurer stated that the president consented to the infrastructural project during a sitting with MPs from the region.

“We recently requested that you dual the road from Kericho to Keroka to Kaplong up to Oyugis, and you assured us that you will get it done. We know you are committed to doing this all across the country,” he stated.

The MP stated that the expansion of the road would improve livelihoods through fast access and transportation of agricultural products as well as ease congestion along the busy strip connecting the three counties.

Nyakundi lauded Ruto’s developmental projects across the constituencies in the larger Gusii land region.

“Mr President, we want to assure you that the projects you have commissioned are well underway. We also have many affordable housing projects and those on healthcare.”

On a political note, Nyakundi assured Ruto of the region’s support as he seeks his reelection in 2027.

“As leaders from the Gusii region, we promise we will walk with you because you have also walked with us,” he added.

Mau-Summit Road

The lawmaker’s remarks come as the government approved the construction of the Nairobi–Nakuru–Mau Summit and Nairobi–Maai Mahiu (A8 South) roads under a Public–Private Partnership (PPP) model, paving the way for one of the largest infrastructure investments on Kenya’s northern corridor.

In a public notice issued on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, on MyGov weekly, the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced that the PPP Committee of the National Treasury and Economic Planning had approved the evaluation of the two projects after a detailed review of feasibility studies.

“The PPP Committee determined that the project meets the public interest, public–private partnership suitability, project feasibility and affordability criteria and approved the project to be procured under the PPP Act, 2021,” the authority said.

Once completed, the dual carriageway is expected to ease traffic congestion along one of the busiest trade and transport routes in the country, connecting Nairobi to western Kenya and neighbouring countries such as Uganda, Rwanda, and South Sudan.
