Kitui MCAs opposes Governor Ngilu appointee

Rift between Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu and members of County Assembly continue to widen with the MCAs opposing the appointment of County secretary Joshua Chepchieng.

Ngilu woes have been worsened by the resignation of her  Treasury Executive Mary Nguli who tendered her resignation letter to the governor last Friday citing difficulties in discharging her duties.

Yesterday, MCAs, led by Majority Leader  Peter Kilonzo, said the appointment of the former County Commissioner was illegal as was not on secondment.

Kilonzo, while addressing the press, vowed to ensure Chepchieng did not occupy the office because proper procedure was not followed to fill the post that has been occupied by Alex Kimanzi on acting capacity.

But speaking to the press separately, Ngilu dismissed the MCAs’ claims, saying they were ignorant on the law on the appointment of a county secretary.

She said Chepchieng was one of the most qualified persons to occupy the office having served in the National government for many years. “It is not a must that his name is approved by the County Assembly,’’ said Ngilu.
