A former Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) employee has been charged before a Kisumu court for providing false academic information to the public entity.

Lilian Akoth was charged with the offence contrary to section 46(1) (d) as read with section 46 (2) of the leadership and integrity act 2012.

While appearing before the Kisumu’s Chief Magistrate Peter Gesora, the court heard that on the 9th day of November 2017 at REREC registry, Akoth provided false information to the Authority by issuing a filled biodata form indicating that she held Diploma in Management-Purchasing and Supplies option from Kenya Institute of Management.

This was one of the eight counts she was put to answer before the Chief Magistrate. In the second and third counts, she was charged with knowingly misleading a public entity.

That on February 1, Akoth knowingly misled a recruitment panel of the Rural Electrification Authority by presenting a forged Diploma Management Purchasing and Supplies options S/No 9654 purporting it to be a valid diploma document thereby causing the panel to interview her and recommend her for appointment to the position of a Supplies Assistant which she was not qualified for.

That being a person employed as Supplies Assistant she fraudulently acquired public property and earned salaries and benefits amounting to Kshs81,719.36 from the Authority.

She however pleaded not guilty to all the charges and was released on a cash bail of Kshs.200,000.

The case will come up for mentioning on July 20.
