Kisumu County government yesterday reaffirmed its commitment to pay all pending bills owed to contractors and suppliers.

Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o said the county government had so far paid Sh800 million from the stock of its development and recurrent pending bills which stood at Sh1.7 billion at the beginning of 2022/2023 financial year.

Nyong’o said the money owed by his government to the contractors and other service providers stood at Sh900 million by end of the financial year.

He said the improved process to offset the pending bills has been necessitated by enhanced efficiency in revenue collection and funds management.

The governor said his administration piloted the Electronic Document Management System (EDMS) in the financial year under review which enabled step-by-step tracking of documents in the payment process to avoid inefficiencies associated with human error in the payment process.

Further, he said the county government has also strengthened the budgeting process to include estimation of project costs in concept notes and full proposals before financial allocation in order to reduce time lost in project preparation after budget approval by the County Assembly.
