Pastors in Kisii County have deplored rise in questionable preachers, saying they are fueling conflicts between the church and the government.

Bishop Lawrence Nyanuga, chairman, Kisii County Pastors and Clergy Forum noted the preachers have turned their houses into churches, making it difficult for their preaching to be monitored.

The official noted they indoctrinate their flock with wrong biblical teachings to suit their interests, forcing their followers to be radicalized with wrong ideologies.

“The preachers should get out of their houses; preach in churches or in open places for people to understand their preaching,” Nyanuga told the People Daily in Kisii town yesterday.

Some preachers noted the official conduct of prayers on Saturdays and Sundays in their houses, saying they have misled women and children, stressing, the Forum has launched a campaign to unite pastors and ensure they do not mislead the flock.

Nyanuga, flanked by pastor Simon Peter challenged worshipers to be keen what preachers preach and ensure they are not misled into embracing unchristian which will ruin their lives.

He noted the Forum advocates for the churches to regulate themselves and clerics teach and preach based on the tenets of Christian values.

On donations by political leaders to churches, he challenged them to give with humility and shun showing off while giving their money.

“Politicians who give money in the church to be recognized and praised by people are wrong. All money belongs to God,” Nyanuga said.

The official noted that politicians are Christians and some are church members and they cannot be barred from attending churches and giving their donations to boost the church’s activities.

Pastor Peter appealed to people who want to be Pastors to embrace training so that they do not mislead worshipers and ruin their lives.

He noted incidences where some pastors had misled their faithful through wrong preaching and teaching were rampant in the country, noting, they are tainting the name of the church.

“We want those who want to be pastors to go through a formal training so that they preach worshippers right things to enhance their spiritual lives. It is wrong to misled unsuspecting faithful” Peter noted.
